BIRMINGHAM, Ala., USA – May 1, 2009 – Following the recent success of its first wave of Open Days during the last two months, EBSCO announces that it will continue the 30-event series through November 2009, in major cities across Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia.
These EBSCO-sponsored Open Days will provide a convenient and beneficial communications exchange platform for all involved in the information supply chain — especially library directors, librarians, academic information managers, e-resources managers, serials and e-books acquisition specialists and corporate information professionals. As well, the Open Day series provides publishers excellent exhibitor opportunities in which to share their e-content product information with attendees. A couple of publishers who have elected to exhibit during various Open Days include SAGE Publications, Ltd. and Project MUSE®.
With numerous meeting, seminar and workshop options, attendees will have access to a multitude of topics relevant to the information services industry, such as industry trends, experiences and best practices, and products and services. EBSCO will also offer information and on-site demonstrations on the wide range of time- and cost-saving solutions that it offers, including its newest and emerging products:
- E-Package Renewals* on EBSCONET® — A new collection management tool, this product was developed in partnership with select publishers to significantly improve the efficiency of the e-package renewal process for library staff. (*Powered by EBSCO RapidRenewal®. EBSCO RapidRenewal® is patent pending.)
- ERM Essentials™ (Coming Soon) — This full-featured electronic resource management (ERM) system will offer single-point access to all areas of e-resource administration. In addition, because of its complete integration with the EBSCO Integrated Knowledge Base, a tremendous amount of data pertaining to a library’s e-collection can automatically be populated, saving countless hours of valuable staff time.
- EBSCO Discovery Service — This new resource will harvest metadata from internal and external sources, creating a centralized pre-indexed service of extraordinary size and speed. It will provide libraries with a single, simple entry point for research and will launch users into the entire array of a library’s collection.
- EBSCOhost® Integrated Search — In addition to the locally indexed content in EBSCO Discovery Service, libraries will have the ability to search the content of databases on remote services through EBSCOhost Integrated Search, EBSCO’s comprehensive federated search solution.
Delphine Dufour, European marketing manager at EBSCO, explained, "These Open Days provide information professionals a chance to learn more about what is currently happening in their markets and to have face-to-face meetings in an enjoyable atmosphere. Indeed, these events are held in very popular venues and feature complimentary cuisine and beverages.
