  1. What is the ScienceDirect eBooks Collection?
    ScienceDirect introduced its eBooks Collection in September 2007 with more than 4,000 titles covering a wide range of scientific disciplines. The collection is fully integrated with the existing books and journals on ScienceDirect and consists of books published between 1995 and 2006. Approximately 500-750 newly published books will be added each year.

  1. What is the pricing model?
    ScienceDirect eBooks require a one-time payment for perpetual access. eBooks are available in discounted subject collections or on a pick and choose basis.
  1. What are the costs associated with each collection?
    Pricing is in EURO, USD and YEN and is based on the print book, size and type of the institution. Subject packages in the 1995-2006 collection will be sold at a discount with an additional 50 percent discount valid through Dec. 31, 2007.ScienceDirect customers pay no annual maintenance fee.
  1. What if I want to purchase eBooks title-by-title?
    Customers can pick and choose the titles they would like to access from all available titles on ScienceDirect and across all subject areas. 
  1. Can more than one person access the same eBook at once?
    The number of users at your institution is dependent upon the terms of your institution's contract. Single-site, multiple-site, as well as global access contracts are available. Once the correct metric for size of the institute has been established, all users within that IP range(s) will have access.
  1. Can eBooks be used off-campus/off-site?
    Yes; users are authenticated by IP range or username and password.
  1. Will my patrons need any special software?
    The eBooks are in PDF format, so the only software needed is Adobe® Reader, which is available free of charge at the Adobe Web site: www.adobe.com.
  1. Are usage statistics available? How do I obtain them?
    ScienceDirect is COUNTER-compliant. Librarians and information managers can receive ScienceDirect usage reports every month via the Usage Reporting Web site.
  1. Are MARC records available?
    Yes; MARC records are provided at no additional charge.
  1. How long do I have access to a collection?
    ScienceDirect eBooks are for annual subscriptions only, and you may subscribe at any time.
  1. Does ScienceDirect offer pay-per-use service?
    No, not at this time.
  1. Who should I contact with questions regarding consortia arrangements?
    Consortia sales are handled on a case-by-case basis. Contact your EBSCO sales representative.
  1. Can I purchase the ScienceDirect eBook Collection through my subscription agent or book wholesaler?
