―Database provider adds more subject-specific databases to its wide array of offerings
IPSWICH, Mass., U.S.A. – Oct. 29, 2008 – EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) has made an acquisition designed to augment the company’s database offerings. EBSCO has purchased NISC, Inc., which provides refined subject area databases, many of which are currently available on EBSCO
host®.
NISC databases include
Family & Society Studies Worldwide,
Gender Studies Database,
Woman’s Studies International, and
Wildlife & Ecology Studies Worldwide. Many of the databases acquired from NISC are already available on EBSCO
host and several others will soon migrate to the EBSCO
host platform.
Fred Dürr, president of NISC, Inc., says EBSCO and NISC are longtime partners. “NISC content has had a long and rich existence on the EBSCO
host platform. Those NISC users who do not access the databases via EBSCO
host will undoubtedly find the new EBSCO
host 2.0 platform an enjoyable search experience. We expect NISC users to have an easy transition as they continue their NISC relationship directly with EBSCO.”
Tim Collins, president of EBSCO Publishing, says the content from NISC, Inc. is an attractive addition to the EBSCO
host line of databases. “EBSCO Publishing has enjoyed our longstanding partnership with NISC and we are very pleased that we were able to acquire the company. NISC has painstakingly developed several quality databases that are well-received by customers worldwide. The addition of these NISC databases to EBSCO
host enables us to offer a richer collection of databases to better serve researchers.”

host may be found at
